Holiday Music from the Local Scene!

December 14, 2010

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! A time for twinkling lights, candy canes, and sob-inducing final exams. To me, the best way to get into the spirit of the season is to listen to some holiday songs. Did you know that several local musicians have tried their hand at holiday music? Here’s an overview of some locally-made Christmas tunes–and some handy gift ideas too!

Christmas Volume One marks the very first release from Pseudoscience Records.  Jordan Banks, Adam Jahn, and John Davey started the local record label just last summer. The 10-tracks on Christmas feature the talents of YEARS, John Davey, Jared Bartman, Craig Menhart, Mike Reeb, Duane Chew, and Steffen Yazvac. For only $5, you get a great CD whose proceeds benefit Lafayette Urban Ministries and Food Finders Food Bank of Lafayette. Plus, you get to support your local scene! Buy the album now–there’s not many left!

With Honors recently recorded a punked-out cover of John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over).”  If you’re looking for a Christmas song with kick, this is your track. Download it for free from With Honors’ Facebook page!

Urbanites wrote this smooth holiday piece back in 2008. You can get it now on their holiday album, which comes with their “Brown Paper Holiday Package.” For only $25 (plus shipping) you get:

Urbanites are selling this gift set to raise money for their upcoming studio sessions. They’re traveling all the way to Denver to work with producers Isaac Slade and Benjamin Wysocki, both of The Fray (!)

Indy pop punk band, Same As Sunday, recorded their own hardcore interpretation of “Up on the Housetop” (featuring Cole Wallace). It’s total reindeer rage. Best of all, it’s a free download from PureVolume!

Finally, keep an eye out for Remember Paris. They just entered the studio to record some songs. And according to their fb status,  they’ll record “a little Christmas jingle” too!

Do you know of any more holiday music from local musicians? Let me know and I’ll add it here!
