OUR SCENE DON’T SUCK FEST in Indianapolis

July 16, 2010

16 bands

2 stages

1 cause: cystic fibrosis

Irving Theater will host the all-ages music fest celebrating talented local bands.

Proceeds from Suck Fest (see what I did there?) go to Indy Miles of Money, a charity raising money for cystic fibrosis research. Tickets are cheaper if you get them before the door, but I’m not sure how to go about that (yet).

Two particular headliners caught my eye–

Ghost of Maine

For metal fans, I highly recommend Ghost of Maine. I’m notoriously picky about metal/hardcore, but I am thoroughly impressed with these guys. “Rendition” floored me. Knock-you-down drums and bass ground gorgeous guitar harmonies, as exemplified on “Isnt that right Mr Scream.” I hope they’ll take a Slipknot-post-2004 comparison as a compliment.

Same As Sunday

Heavy drums and bass also carry into Same As Sunday’s “An Ode to Ms. Communication.” Yet this bubbly quartet stays on the pop side of the tracks. Their song, “One in a Million” is meta-scene brilliance in a genre lacking humor. Definitely worth checking out.

See you there?

Peace,

Girl At The Show

For some peculiar reason, I don’t think “Suck Fest” will go national. Maybe Las Vegas or Reno
